Leaving the platform: what to do with the content you already shot

Updated 2026-09-13

First, the thing that will stop you: to buy material with someone in it we need that person's documentation — identity document, proof of age and consent signed by them. If someone else appears in your videos and you have no way to contact them, no serious buyer can take that material. If it is just you, it is far simpler.

Your archive does not disappear when you close the account

When you upload material to a platform you are not giving it away: you grant a licence to display it while the relationship lasts. Ownership stays with you. Closing the account ends that licence, full stop — it transfers nothing to anyone.

This sounds obvious, but plenty of people assume the opposite and leave years of work rotting on a hard drive because they think it is no longer theirs.

What to do before you hit close

Three ways out for an archive

Leave it sitting. Costs nothing and earns nothing. It is what almost everyone does.

Migrate it to another platform. Makes sense if you are still active, but it means starting the audience work over. If you are leaving because you are burnt out, this is not leaving.

Sell it once. You get a concrete amount for material that is already shot and already paid for. Nothing to maintain, no messages to answer, nothing to post weekly. That is what we do.

What to assign if you are really leaving

If you are not coming back, a perpetual exclusive is usually your best option: it pays considerably more than non-exclusive and closes the matter. And there is a side effect almost nobody knows about: under a non-exclusive licence the buyer has no standing to pursue anyone pirating your material — only the owner or an exclusive licensee does. Assign it exclusively and that problem stops being yours and becomes someone else's, someone with more means to fight it.

Send what you have and we will give you a figure. The valuation is free and commits you to nothing.
